About the society

International Society for Heart Research

The society started as an "International Study Group for Research in Cardiac Metabolism" in Dubrovnik in 1968; at the 1976 World Congress in Tokyo, one adopted the name "International Society for Heart Research". The mission is to promote the discovery and dissemination of knowledge in the cardiovascular sciences on a world-wide basis.

Current president: Prof. Thomas Eschenhagen, who is Professor and Director of the Institute for Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf.
